Although the IUCN's predicted 2050 as the Year of Lion Extinction in Africa - the South African Government approved in 2024 a new law policy to terminate the captive bred lion industry, including ALL captive bred lion tourism & research - forcing captive bred lion owners to either: (1) euthanize or (2) sterilize their lions WITHOUT ANY financial compensation from the SA Government! This means that more than 80% (8 500 - 10 000 lions) of SA's lions will be terminated! "Killing the victims" instead of managing the industry.
